Four MARINCOMP Researchers attend Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions event in Manchester, UK. The event, held on the 28th-29th July was a satellite event to the European Science Open Forum (ESOF) held in the University of Manchester. In attendance we Dr Vensa Jaksic and Sean McAuliffe of UCC, Dimitrios Mamalis of UEDIN and Dr Zhao of Ulster University. The MARINCOMP research poster was also on display at the event.
MARINCOMP researchers Prof Conchúr Ó Brádaigh and James Maguire presented a paper at the 13th International Conference on Flow Processes in Composite Materials (FPCM-13), Kyoto, Japan, July 2016. Prof Ó Brádaigh was also on the Scientific Committee for the conference. The details of the paper are as follows:
- Maguire, J., Simacek, P. , Advani, S. ( University of Delaware, United States) and Ó Brádaigh, C.M, “Through-thickness resin flow and heat transfer modelling of partially impregnated composite materials for thick-section parts”, Proceedings of 13th International Conference on Flow Processes in Composite Materials (FPCM-13), Kyoto, Japan, July 2016
Dr Alistair McIlhagger and Dr Edward Archer of University of Ulster attended a 3-day workshop “Sustainable Materials and Materials for Sustainability” held on May 8-10 at Qatar University which brought together over 50 experienced and early career researchers from multidisciplinary backgrounds such as materials science, chemistry, engineering, and energy and environment. The workshop was co-organized by CAM and Ulster University under the Qatar-UK Research Networking Programme, and sponsored by British Council and Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) in collaboration with UK Science and Innovation Network and UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. UCC PhD Candidate and MARINCOMP researcher James Maguire presented at the 20th Internaltional Conference on Composite Materials (ICCM20). The conference was held in Copenhagen, Denmark between the 19th and 24th July 2015. James’ paper entitled “RESIN CHARACTERISATION FOR NUMERICAL MODELLING OF THROUGH-THICKNESS RESIN FLOW DURING OOA PROCESSING OF THICK-SECTION WIND OR TIDAL TURBINE BLADES” was co-written by MARINCOMP researchers Prof Conchúr Ó Brádaigh (UCC) Derrick Doyle, Mark Logan (both Eirecomposites) and Ananda Roy (ICOMP).
An Taoiseach Enda Kenny T.D. has officially opened the UCC Beaufort Building in Ringaskiddy, which will provide Ireland with world-class infrastructure for renewable energy and maritime research to power the ‘blue economy’. The 4,700m squared five storey building features state-of-the-art wave simulators, test tanks, workshops and offices. MARINCOMP was represented on the day by Prof Conchúr Ó Brádaigh, Principle Investigator of MARINCOMP and Director of MaREI.
There was a poster display on the day which included the MARINCOMP research poster.
The MARINCOMP Steering Group met in Dublin on Thursday 21st May 2015. This meeting was attended by all project partners. Items for discussion included updates on technical report, upcoming secondments and outreach activities.
